The NFL, in its unrelenting quest to be more politically correct, has disciplined several players for such off fields acts as using homosexual slurs. Obviously, criminal violence is a big problem for the league, with one player now under arrest and charged with at least one murder.
In the wake of the Zimmerman acquittal, at least two players have made highly inflammatory and remarkably ignorant statements. One, Roddy White of the Falcons, suggested the jurors could "go home and kill themselves." It doesn't take a lot of imagination to see how some thug who idolizes White could take it upon himself to help the process along. http://atlanta.cbslocal.com/2013/07...s-should-go-home-tonight-and-kill-themselves/
Another genius player, the Giant's Vicor Cruz, tweeted after the verdict that he didn't expect Zimmerman to last a year before the hood caught up with him. He didn't seem to be upset at that prospect either. This is a guy with a national advertising campaign for soup. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/giants_catches_apologizes_after_Kz39939o57Qqc4uXyV7KII
Of course, both players walked back their comments, no doubt after hearing from their agents.
My question, if the league is going to punish players for making unPC remarks, don't these guys deserve fairly severe punishment as well? They are arguably encouraging murder, something you'd think the league would be a tiny bit sensitive about after the Ray Lewis scandal, the guy with the Panthers who killed his girlfriend and now the Hernandez case.
I ask this rhetorically, because we all know the black double standard will kick in here. The stuffed shirt commisioner will do nothing.
