They only believe in ones rights to express their views when those views agree with their own. It's ok for hillbilly to say what he thinks but it's not ok for A&E to employ who they want to, odd isn't it. And how stupid is this guy to fuck up a gravy train like he has, I bet his wife is pissed at him right now.
Edit: I shouldn't call him hillbilly, he's probably a nice guy in person. He just got caught talking out his ass is my guess.

You know what, I agree with this too. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave up the show rather than compromise.
I don't see how the show can continue or how the other family members would agree to if they kicked their patriarch off.
I'm pretty sure they can find another channel more easily than A & E can find another top-tated show.

I would never have thought the President of Russia reflects our values more faithfully than the President of the US, but he clearly does.
it's a strange thing, me agreeing with stu, but they have the right to do it, just like a private wedding photographer has the right to deny his service to a gay couple*. Like you implied though, the stations are out to make money and if DD is a moneymaker (never heard of it) this is an opportunity for another station.

Exactly, people are getting up in arms about this but really, can anyone say whatever the fuck they want at work (if you work for someone else)? Of course not!
I think it's a little more complicated than that.
There are laws against religious discrimination. Firing someone because they believe the Bible would seem to run afoul of that.
This guy's comments were not made "at work." It's like firing you because you supported the wrong political candidate.
The guy plays a redneck on a reality show. It's not like someone is likely to confuse him with the President of the network. The comments were clearly made in his personal capacity, not as some sort of representative or spokesperson for A&E.
I think if they had issued a statement saying they disagreed with his comments but understood they were only hisperosnal views, everyone is more or less satisfied. Now they have a real mess to deal with.
`Nother law I disagree with. A network should be free to fire anybody for any reason or even no reason at all, just like a person can quit for any reason or no reason at all. You can quit because you now report to a (insert discrimination label of your choice), so why shouldn't the network be able to not hire or even fire you for having the same label?
And I am not saying GLAAD has no right to say what they said. Just rolling my eyes at all the people who seize upon the slightest pretext to scream as if people are being executed in the streets. There's real evil in the world, real injustice. GLAAD kvetching about this guy is akin to getting mad and making press statements about a jaywalker in Detroit.
Man, I'd sure make a rotten PR person. I can see myself talking to some reporter as an A&E rep and he brings up this nonsense. I'd be all "WTF? Who cares about that bilge. Let me tell you about the awesome stuff we got for next season."
