I don't know whether the conservatives are just acting dumb, or they really are this dumb. In most of the arab world women are treated like shit. It's a fact. Why would I take offense? It's a reflection of their backwards political/social structure. They badly need reforms/revolutions. But this is no excuse for your religious bigotry.
When in the US women didn't have voting right 100 years ago, was it the fault of their religion?
BTW, Saddam's Iraq gave women best treatment in the entire Arab world. US invasion ended that. Now they're treating their women like shit just like everywhere else in the Arab world, thanks to US invasion. Paraphrasing Rumsfeld, they're just enjoying their freedom.
Frankly... No! People do not understand that there is more than one Arab people with different cultures education and background. Having me saying that...We have a lot of fucked up shit in our society. A valid example, though minute, is honor killing. I would say that it is not in "Most" of the Arab world. I could even name and pinpoint the countries that these diseases flourish in.

I remember when I was living in Cairo as a teenager hearing this frantic knocking on our apartment door. I answered it to find our next-door neighbor (Egyptian Muslim woman) screaming hysterically with blood all over her. Turns out her husband objected to her wanting to find a job to better support the family, so he beat her over the head with the heel of one of her better sets of shoes until the heel broke off....Arab way of telling their women to remain employed in only a domestic capacity, I suppose.
Wael, I do understand there are many Arab cultures and maybe in retrospect it was unfair of me to say most of the Arab world treats their women like shit. I suspect Saudi Arabia is the worst, when I was there the women were afraid to look at me, they can't drive cars, its pathetic. Other places seem to degrade when muslim clerics and imams get some power, and I suppose that could be said for any culture, Arab or not, though you really only see it in parts of the Middle east. But anyways yes, you make a point.
Mr. Bond, I think the reason women are treated so poorly in the Arab world is because Islam - esp in places where muslim clerics and imams have power. Despite Christianity in this nation, in the world, I don't think you can draw parallels to the descrimination that women face in the nations where Islam reigns. That is the way most see it.
Wyoming was where women were first allowed to vote in the US, and at the time it was those horrible conservative republicans that permited it, the democrats opposed it.
That's why I was a Republican before I became a Democrat. The two parties' roles are completely reversed now.
