Widescreen vs Square Monitors

I resisted the new widescreen monitors (aspect ratio 16:9 instead of the conventional 4:3) at first. But it kind of grew on me. I like the widescreen monitors a lot now and don't want to go back.

I am in the process of upgrading my old CRT and LCD monitors to the new widescreen ones. The old 19" monitor gives you a resolution of 1280 x 1024. The new widescreen monitors give you 1920 x1080. Big difference.

If you wants a square Internet Explorer setup, you can resize your IE window. And squeeze in a few other apps along side. :)

The old ones just sat on top of plastic trays that are designed to be placed on the top of CRTs. I used them for 2-3 years without problem. The new ones... I am strapping them down with tie-wraps.

You completly missed the point about resolution. Screens size by the way have "ZERO" to do with trading.

Fucking trading has a way of attracting idiots that know "NOTHING about trading on day 1 but 3 weeks later are fucking genius's"

i prefer a 24" widescreen x2. that and using display fusions gives me 42" horizontally for my trading app. i have had many monitors over the years, both 4x3 and 16x10 and i find that it's
only dpi of .27 or smaller that i find acceptable. panel type, ie., tn, pva, mpva, ips, means nothing to me in terms of reading text and charts.

I think resolution does matter. If you buy a 26-inch LCD monitor and the resolution is only 1680 x 1050, and you are sitting 2 feet away from the monitor... that is like in the old days of buying a 52-inch analog TV without the HDTV resolution. An enlarged, grainy picture.

Apple does a good job with their 32-inch monitor. The resolution is very high. The images are very crisp.

For trading (charting) application, it may not matter much to some (though for me... I want to squeeze as many charts as I can on a screen so it matters a lot). If you use your computer to edit digital photos, you can appreciate having higher resolutions.

I've seen you spout this rubbish more than once before.

1. Traders use different strategies, so the physical shape of the screen may differ as well. Personally, widescreens suits me.

2. Resolution does matter. The higher the resolution the screen, the more accurately information can be displayed. This is even more important if you place a number of charts/windows on a screen.

3. Size does matter. A larger screen is easier to see, allowing you to fit more on it while still being legible (which works hand-in-hand with resolution).
 
What I need to know is does anyone still make NON widescreen panels in sizes above 19"?

A stroll through a computer mall seemed to reveal a complete absence of non widescreen in sizes 20" and above. There used to be 22" and 24" NON wide panels.

Would like to buy something like the old Samsung 204T or maybe a 22", but seems no can do.

Also if TN is the no good type then what is the good type?
 
children use widescreen "consumer" screens, professionals use square screens.

The industry moved from regular square screens to widescreens because the stupid consumer just buys the NUMBER of the screen size, just like the speed of the cpu, etc, etc. It is called marketing. AKA, a nerd went to BEST BUY, a consumer store and buys a 24 inch screen because it is bigger than his girlfriends 17 inch screen. he calls her up and tries to impress her with his new sized tool. She snickers and hangs up.

The hardware forum now even has guys that are unable to comprehend. Life is not that serious you guys, there is more to it besides getting your shorts all twisted up. Grow up.

Hardware forum is a dud place now without gnome or whatever his nickname was.

I now join gnome and will no longer come to this hardware forum. BYE, better things to do with my time.

one final thought, ha. One chart for a whole screen is my game. You stock nerds that have 20 charts on a single screen are silly at best. :D
