Wide or regular monitor? what size? how many?

As a trader you can never have too much screen "real estate".

In terms of price/quality, right now the sweet spot is monitors with 1920x1080 resolution.

Get the biggest one you can afford. I like the 28" Hans G which could be had for around $300. It does not require a super strong video card (regular on board will do fine), has HDMI connections (2 I think) and will allow you to easily follow a couple of time frames at the same time. One monitor is more than enough. Once you make your first 100k AND pay taxes on it then you could get another which by then you will likely not need. I fancy one big monitor for charts and a laptop for DOM and execution. So far can't complain. Good Luck!!!!! As all before you, you gonna need it in this racket. :D

I agree with killthesunshine.

The 28-inch is nice... but the resolution of 1920x1200 is too coarse for its size. I can have a 23-inch for 2048x1020. For the 5 more inches diagonal space, one is not getting any additional resolution. This will be the effect of having a 52-inch plasma TV but only able to receive conventional non-HD signals. You are seeing big pixels not a finer picture.

Perhaps you and I are the only 2 who believe in this.

Almost every time I mentioned my multiple monitor setup in my trading room I got chatised.
 
I trade with one screen but really, two would be nice..

LED backlighting would be a good feature. Better colors and probably easier on the eyes...
