I don't get it. Why would any soldier surrender to ISIS knowing you will be executed and it will most likely be filmed for propaganda purposes?

yes, that is the thing civilized nations figured out. For one thing, prisoners can be used as bargaining chips.

I find it hard to believe that all of ISIS are mentally depraved psychopaths. For many of them it is probably just a job. And I've had some pretty shitty jobs in my life.

Give them a better job and they will leave ISIS.
