Why was the government's IT so bad under Obama?

Man this Obama really screwed up the government's computers when he was President.

His Secretary of State was using an illegal server to store classified information. He claims he didn't know anything about it, but he was emailing her on it. They tried to retrieve Lois Lerner's emails and they lost them. They lost 50,000 text messages from these FBI agents. Last but not least, Obama tried to put together this healthcare.gov website and it was a complete debacle.

Its certainly nice that he is long gone.

Federal government operational IT is actually fairly competent. All the "failures" you noted above are due to deliberate actions or orders of non-IT government employees or politicians. The IT operations staff merely complied with the orders.

The healthcare.gov site is a different issue. It was put together by outside contracting firms, not government employees. And the outside contracting firms did a very poor job.

As usual, you are the voice of reason among some rather ill informed colleagues.

You can say it was deliberate actions and poor outside contracting but it all starts at the top.

Thank you for finally recognizing that you work for the government, I'm sure you feel a huge weight lifted from your shoulders.

I have worked some contracts for federal and state government over time. I have not worked for the defense department.

Most of my work is with banks and insurance companies -- which pay a lot more than government work.
