Why was Huntsman not nominated by the GOP?

If the GOP was serious about winning the elections against Obama why was Huntsman not nominated, it seems instead the voters chose "Empty suit Romney"

Sad but this is the second time they screwed up, Palin was the first one which guaranteed Obama a win and now they do it again.

What is going on with the GOP?
 
I asked that last year and was taken to task for it. He would have, IMO, been a better choice, but he had loose ties to the Obama administration and had made some rational and sensible statements on ocassion. Didn't pass the I can be crazier than you test.
