LOL @ obsessive, hermit, miser, middle-aged aspies/autists on ET

They can't wait to get on their hobby horse of telling everyone "my way is the only right way"

Does everything have to be "positive expectation" to do it? LOL

Only for the intelligent. People of your ilk are free to piss away your limited coin however you wish.

For most people playing the lottery is a HOBBY / ENTERTAINMENT / FUN.
Is that so hard to understand?
No, just hard to believe. Unless you have a scientific survey showing otherwise, most people play the Lottos out of hope and/or desperation. Fuck fun, they want the money. Especially the ones who have to build up the jackpot to the point where there actually is some positive expectation. At least in Vegas the odds are better and the payoffs are instant, not delayed over days.

Don't feel bad about your gambling addiction. It's your lot in life to be one of the hopeless suckers who build up the jackpot to the point where it's worth playing for the rest of us. :D

1.4bn now :wtf:

It is insane to think how much has actually been spent on the tickets. If i'm not mistaken it is something like 20 cents towards the actual jackpot. So if cash value is $868m, that is $4b+ in ticket sales.

Wish it was reasonably possible to start your own lottery with a higher payout. Could make a fortune. I know in my state a a big chunk goes towards education though which is great for reducing school costs.

...I wouldn't be surprised if on Wednesday evening before the numbers are drawn the jackpot is at 1.8 billion. o_O
(i hope it surpasses the 2 billion mark...but that's being too ambitious.)

PowerBall mania is alive. and sweeping the nation

I saw on facebook a post saying if the jackpot was split between everybody in America, it would be $4.33 million per person...clearly somebody doesn't know their math very well lol.

But yeah me too. If interest rates were higher (not that I want that) the jackpot would be significantly higher I'm sure since it is based on an annuity.

Powerball jackpot soars past $1 billion, shattering previous records. Since Nov. 4, the Powerball jackpot has grown from its $40 million starting point as no one has won the jackpot. Such a huge jackpot was just what officials with the Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the Powerball game, hoped for last fall when they changed the odds of matching all the Powerball numbers, from about one in 175 million to one in 292.2 million. By making it harder to win a jackpot, the tougher odds made the ever-larger prizes inevitable.

Whew, this has got to mess up the heads of few of you. Keep buying and start praying! :D
LOL; stupid tax on people that cant do math, as DR + that elite trader implied......
Pray for wisdom, that way you will NOT waste so much money. They maybe more honest than the chicago crooks, they refused to pay[lottery]+ said something like '' pay some day'' or wait till our next budget.LOL ...................................................................................

No..., trading would keep me grounded..., focused..., and in tune with reality

I have no problem buying a few tickets :). Certainly no expectation of hitting the jackpot but 1 out of 200 million chance for some pocket change is reasonable :). Actual cash option is usually 40% upfront I think so cool $700 million... which is ridiculous for 1 person to win in a lottery haha
