We have a high debt to GDP ratio because we have responsibilities around the world that we cannot abandon as the Canadians have. If we did, then I agree that we could afford a better health care system. Or at least if we required others to pay their fair share. I am sure that those shipments of surplus maple syrup to Ethiopia are appreciated but sometimes more than that is needed. Just sayin, eh?

Why did you need Canadians in Afghanistan then ? They weren't shipping maple syrup. Your world responsibilities are largely projects you chose because you can't keep your hands off other people's business and have poor priorities. You invaded Iraq at massive expense for NO good reason at all. That's on you and your idiot leader Bush. You bulked up your military far beyond what is necessary. Other nations will not pay for your poor judgement.
You chose excess military spending over health care. Even after Russia split up.
