Californians have been making fun of people from the south and the midwest since at least 1957 that I know of. I think it is religious bigotry more than anything, Californians are catholics way more than southerners and mid westerners. I worked in Silicon Valley once which is way more Cathlo-leftist than Southern California and the prejudice against Southern Californians was a reality, they all thought they were way, way better at technology and everything else, never mind that I was [a Bible reader, my God!!] there from Southern Cailifornia consulting to try to save their projects and their company!!
And dang, I was in the Texas panhandle a while back and I saw more great looking women than I thought possible, and they could do things, like ride a horse, get my jokes, etc.... Quality of life better in blue states, I think not really.
