Why South Korea Able to Effectively Contain Covid-19

Because it's just an over glorious common cold that's being used to push the NWO agendas.

I think they should put all of the conspiracy theorists (including you) together on an island with a Covid-19 positive individual and only one of you have a medical mask while all are singing together and holding hands that its just a "common cold".

If they provide the beer (preferably Corona's) and some beach towels, I'm game. We'll just eat the casualties ;) you down?

Except that the government ignorantly kept their border to China open in a clear subservient manner and hence invited the initial explosion in infections in Korea. The general population strongly protested that move but Mr. Business thought he knew better.
This is what I believe is that latest re South Korean Travel Restrictions courtesy the NY Times.
South Korea

South Korea has restricted the entry of travelers with passports from China’s Hubei Province as well as anyone who has visited that region in the past 14 days. Additionally, Korean visas that were issued to travelers in Hubei are canceled.

Visa-free entry to Jeju Island for all foreigners, as well as visa-free entry for Chinese nationals and travelers who are headed to China, are both suspended.

A few of us, notably myself, early on, stressed the importance of testing, and testing everyone, not just those with symptoms, as a containment measure for Covid-19. This is based of the principle that to control a pandemic you must control the rate of infection. This requires awareness, masks for everyone, not just medical personnel, and near universal testing. In a pandemic where there are many asymptomatic but infectious people walking around, it is just as important to test the asymptomatic as it is those with symptoms.

Initially, in the U.S., because of insufficient testing capability and turn around time, only the symptomatic were tested. Also, a drastically insufficient inventory of masks was on hand, so citizens were advised not to wear masks to preserve the existing inventory for medical personnel. U.S. Citizens were being misinformed when they were told that Masks were not helpful. The U.S. slept while other countries were ramping up testing and mask inventory. When the virus hit the U.S., the nation was woefully unprepared, even though epidemiologists had issued more than ample warning.

"'The quick fielding of a widely available test gave South Korea a key advantage in fighting the spread of the disease', said Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine and infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. “They used the WHO test, so they had a test that was validated early on. Then, they made a simple decision: Test as many people as possible. They organized themselves to get specimens and then made sure they had a very high throughput in the labs.” -- see link below for further details.

Here is how South Korea was able to ramp up its testing capabilities and successfully contain the virus despite being at high risk.

The reason why Korea was so proactive in testing everyone from the beginning was because they went through both SARS and MERS, which apparently USA had no experience with other than hearsay. Going forward, I have no doubt USA will be alert and proactive with future pandemics.

You don't need to go through something to be able to plan for it. America needs to get tougher with it's Pandemic Response. It just overtook the world in Coronavirus cases and will soon overtake the world in Deaths.

Quarantine Measures that other Countries are Doing but America doesn't

1. Temperature checks of people on the Street by Police & Security
2. Widespread Thermal Imaging of citizens coming through Airports
3. Public Disclosure of Afflicted people with location
4. Tracking Wristbands for infected Coronavirus people
5. Using troops to spray disinfectant on Coronavirus hotspots

I'll have a nearby cruise ship send you a case of La Cagole beer. Better tasting than Corona and it will not cause conspiracy theorists to resort to cannibalism.

Well, Trump obviously downplayed it at first. Now the country is paying a hefty fee (or fine) for his mistake. Hopefully, they won't be so slow to respond next time.

True for next time. But there's still time to pivot and change your response for this current crisis.

Yes, everyday that goes by without adequate response means many more ill and thousands more dead than necessary. it is time to get busy ramping up testing and protective gear in all 50 states. Every day's delay is costly. State by State variable approach with States bidding against other States and FEMA is lunacy!
Meanwhile the Pentagon is reportedly sitting on thousands of undeployed ventilators.

I wonder why Sweden does not think
movement restrictions are necessary.

I can't get the CNN story URL to show
up. Search for "Sweden Covid-19 response" and
you will see a CNN story plus others on the lack
of Swedish lock down.

I think most of the Chinese success was due to
using scanning thermometers to find people
to test and isolate and trace contacts. China
required a termperature scan when leaving
and entering residental complexes and stores.
People want to know if they need medical help
because they may have Covid-19. Covid-19 is
contagious for on average 4 days before
symptoms (usually mild) develop.
Therefore thermometers are only approximate
but enough to lower the overall number of viruses
in the environment. One needs to assume that
Chinese virus tests were only 30% correct, so the
temperature scans work as well.
