Why Some Scientists Embrace the 'Multiverse

Quote from jem:

you need to deal in fact.

When people are asked questions they respond with what they think. Which is frequently an amalgamation of the best thoughts they have been exposed to on the subject coupled with their own filters or ideas.

in short just because a similar quote was in written in a book in the early 1900s does not mean that einstein did not respond to a question with a similar answer. ( for instance - Do people always credit Reagan or an old Russian proverb before they say trust but verify. )

just because no book on google books wrote of the quote prior to 1979 does not mean there were not other sources for the quote that existed at the time. You are complete over stretching.

In short... you have a reasonable argument that there could have been mis attribution. However, you are over playing it.
No you're just too ashamed to admit that your "Einstein quote'' has all the validity of young George Washington cutting down a cherry tree. Only a lawyer, or perhaps only a shyster, would go to this extreme to try to hold on to a bogus quote.

kut2k2,
I think you should be made aware that Jem was from the get go and for quite a while after, using the word 'site' for 'cite' up until he was eventually, after numerous attempts, educated right here on ET. It is therefore doubtful to say the least, he was ever a lawyer. A wannabe lawyer yes. If he was however, law school has a lot to answer for. To actually go through law not recognizing that word might throw some light on why his intellectual ability to understand the flaming obvious is so apparently wanting. Along with one or two others that come to mind, ranking him in the ET silly buggers league, and so in my opinion, you mustn't expect too much in the way of common sense.
Thanks, stu :)

so if 10 is meta physical certainty on a 1-10 scale how sure are you that Einstein never said anyting like the fundamental question is - is the universe friendly - based on the facts you presented.

Quote from Tsing Tao:

Duh.

I know I'm out of the loop, but I just can't watch that shit on TV. Except for what little I've read here I don't know much about the trial and don't care too. It's reality TV for middle aged white guys. I can't watch those made for TV reality murder trials even when there's a good looking lady being prosecuted.

the ridiculous troll b.s.
when a troll faces a losing argument they start in on the typos.

when they have lost an argument for 5 years... they resort to revisions of history about typos.

You can't blame them, jem. Like the race baiters, they can only see what they want to see. Evidence and truth is not what they seek. They are afraid to get too near the Kryptonite of facts.

I am 10 that IF he said it, he was quoting Myers, probably with attribution, but some idiot along the way falsely attributed it to Einstein. I am 9 that he never said it at all, given the abundance of other quotes misattributed to him, so why should this one be any different other than wishful thinking on your part?

The mis attribution argument is almost a red herring for me.
Because I would have no reason to believe the cited author was creator of the idea without much further research.

I have no concern that Einstein was not the originator of that idea. (E=MCsquared is pretty good originality for anyone.) I am sure Einstein repeated the ideas of many scientists and philosophers during his life.

But.... the fact that the first quote showing up the internet is from 1979 is the issue for me. I don't we can rule that he never said it... but I would say it is fairly disputed. I would like to know more about orly and his reputation.
