Why some Democrats foresee a 40-seat pickup in the House in 2018

40 is optimistic, they have not done enough work.
 
The elections are a long time off. The republicans can severely damage their chances by selling out on DACA and amnesty. Their voters are in a foul mood and eager to lay the wood to pols who disappoint. Immigration and health care consistently poll at the top of voters' concerns, but what they got is massive tax cuts for billionaires. The republican congressmen are using up their credit with MAGA voters quickly and don't seem to even realize it. All it takes for them to lose is a small percentage of republican voters to play golf election day and not vote. That could easily happen.

All depends on the money in peoples pockets. If the market is still roaring, they get an actual infrastructure plan going, and wages go up some, the left has little chance of picking up anything. All this social justice crap and butt slapping sexual misconduct won't add up to much if people are flush with cash. Oh yeah, there's always Russia. Bwaaa Ha ha ha ha
