Here in the U.S. the "poor" don't pay income taxes. Therefore their taxes cannot be reduced. Yes they pay all kinds of other taxes and fees but they are hard to quantify. That's why they collect sundry gifts from the government which we all pay for including them. The right hand gives while the left hand takes.

"The Solution" involves (1) cutting government spending, (2) incentivizing growth through reduction of taxes. Everything outside that is just "circle jerk economics/political spew"...

Our problems are not "paying too little taxes"... after all, Fed and state taxes already take 45% of our GDP... HOW MUCH FRICKIN' MORE DO YOU WANT?
"THE REAL PROBLEM", is too much in the way of "benefits"... payouts to buy policical favor...

One of the things I love about the FairTax idea, is that even though it's revenue neutral, set at 23% (retail sales tax), if the government wanted to raise taxes, they'd have a hell of a lot harder time convincing EVERYONE that it must go up. Once their revenue is capped, the expense side of the balance sheet can be attacked next, and maybe the 23% can come down.
