Why is trading so difficult?

In my opinion trading requires a lot of screen time. It doesn't matter how much you've learned about the basics. What really matters is how can you perform when you have a chart at your screen and need to decide which way the market is trending and how you are going to enter and manage our position. If you can do these three things you are closer to your goal to become a successful trader.

Agree, and welcome to the ET! For how long do you trade and what is your estimate of screen time needed to become steady in profits?

In addition....

1. Trading is more of a 50-50 proposition than aspiring traders hope/believe. In every trade there is a buyer and a seller... equally convinced that their side of the transaction is the correct play.

2. Losing is painful. Losing money is usually especially painful. We are hard-wired to avoid pain and that plays into how we cope with risk.

And then there's the "hope" aspect. "I hope I get lucky". Unfortunately, luck has a way of not showing up when we need it most.

Yep...!
As George once wrote about the markets:
“If you don’t know who you are, this is an expensive place to find out.” – George J.W. Goodman (1968)

Well I have been interested and doing this business since I was in high school. About screen time I would say at least one year, but it differs from each person. I had to practice at least half a year on the demo account to be consistently profitable. You can't have enough time from this, because even after being interested and doing this for nearly 2 years i would say I have much to learn.
