Ok, I've gotta say it...

Take a look at our civilization from afar. What if you were a silent visitor just observing human activity on earth? What would you see?

You would see a barely conscious hominid species of mammal that clearly dominates the land surface of the planet. A species that breeds, raises and slaughters other species for protein with little regard for suffering. In some cases you would observe a species that kills other species for no discernible reason aside from some kind of emotional response to... killing another species.

You would see a species that propels itself through the air, water and along highways in vehicles powered by ancient organic hydrocarbons. Dinosaur juice.

You would see a species that dwell largely in structures made of organic materials. Even with all the automobiles the amount of wood utilized by man is vastly greater than the amount of refined minerals (metals) we use.

You would see a species with little compunction about killing one another over very slight differences in ideas. You would see a species that has attempted to cope with the extreme isolation of our planet by creating notions of all powerful deities... and then killing one another over insignificant differences in those notions.

From afar we must look impossibly primitive and brutal. We are probably firmly on a "do not contact" list or have been simply written off as unintelligent.
