Why is the US COVID situation so dire?

Other countries seem to have a better handle. Florida and Texas are a mess, Southern CA is no better. Why? How did Spain and Italy who were in dire situations managed to come out with a better curve than the US? Do not tell me it is all Trump's fault because it is bull. The bureaucracies in the CDC and other assorted agencies are mind-boggling and rather inept. Still, there is a huge contrast with the rest of the world.

they're not a mess. Don't believe everything you read. This is an election year. Its all about the "optics". If something can be made to make the existing administration look bad, it will be.
