Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

In the simplest terms, what defines a trend and where are they obvious?

Remember this is the first section of TST - but alone could change the way you trade forever, so we must be careful to not give the monkeys too much info, as they are very rude and do not deserve anything only bananas :)

In fact, in the right hands, it is worth millions - such as Mr Grey!

J_Smith you seem to side stepping the obvious point that achilles28 is probing you about, so I will ask it. Taking for example this chart that you posted, does that chart by itself without referring to any other information contain what you understand to be 'the obvious'?

If you ask someone what they think about what it is they asked, then they will have to question what they asked, and in questioning what they asked they will see that what they asked might not be what they thought they asked :)

If you tell someone what they want to hear, they will believe it to be true!

Does that 5 sec chart by itself contain information that is in line with the Op's first post - does it show you a pre-requisite for trading that instrument?

You ask me what I think, but, I ask you what you "see", if anything!

When you look at a chart and it's obvious it's going up or obvious it's going down...

...that's when it's obvious.

I remember some years ago, on one of the many "forum" sites at the time (most are now replaced with twitter and facebook, for the worse I will add !), there was this one idiot who kept posting about his FX trading and what he knew.

One day, while everyone was watching the debate between this idiot and the rest, a poster who was well known to trade FX effectively stepped in with a very simple statement!

"If the chart starts in the bottom left corner of your screen, and finishes in the top right, the price is going up" - I laughed so much when I read that and still laugh about it today :)

Everyone was trying to get some "information" from this idiot, who obviously didn't even trade, and in steps a real trader with the most simple statement in the world, which is of course very "obvious" :)

Fair enough. So how do u determine the trend? How do u time the trade ?
This was the last question by A28, to which I have replied by showing numerous charts of the SPX and asking a very simple question as follows:

In the simplest terms, what defines a trend and where are they obvious?

Has anyone answered the question that was asked yet!

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?"

It amazes me in this thread/and similar threads on ET...how people have been in this 'game' for some time...and a lightbulb/common sense hasn't gone off in their heads yet.

I see a signature at times and then something else at other times, which is obvious to me, but perhaps not to others and perhaps it is not what you refer to. But you are evading the question as to the specific obvious relating to the OPs first post. You profess to know what that obvious is, so again I ask you does the chart contain what you regard as that specific obvious.

How about answering with a simple: yes, no , I don't know, or I won't say.
