No, it is not a standalone version. That was the answer from MC when I asked it. You need permanent connection via internet with them.
And they can even "help" you online if needed. No, thanks.

There is a "small" difference between an broker who sees your trades and MC who can see all your code.

Speaking on Ninja and in particularly NT8, I haven't yet had any issues to speak of during live trading, BUT, over this weekend I've had multiple freezes where I have had to 'kill' the application to exit.

Not very encouraging.

Of course this is only my subjective experience, but I haven't noticed NT8 to be any faster or smoother than NT7. I know they had an issue with a lagging and slow crosshair which took years to fix. And it's still recommended to NOT use crosshairs if you want to optimize performance. :)

Well, depending on how many workspaces you have open, and how many charts you have open in each workspace, I can see GLOBAL crosshairs being an issue. But why regular (per-chart-only) crosshairs would cause an issue I do not know. At least, not on NT7.

And NT8 has two things going for it...Millisecond chart resolution, and much much faster replay if you be using custom indicators which rely heavily on the incoming tick data. (The multi-threading I guess you would call it.)

I don't use global crosshairs. Just local. It was NEVER an issue on NT7. So, it's a mystery to me that it took them years to fix this (they fixed it just around the time I migrated) on NT8 which is supposed to be so much better.

That said, I am using NT for now and I don't plan on changing anytime soon... :)

That’s a pretty bold claim. Can you prove they can see all your source code? Although they maintain a constant connection to their servers to protect their own IP, I’ve never heard of one case involving end user privacy issues. IMO, you’ve completely misconstrued that purpose, which they’ve repeatedly clarified on a public forum.

What do you use to do research and analysis on tick data? Although MC and NT can download and work with the data, they are unwieldy and not really designed for such a purpose? Did you have to write your own software to handle this task? Or did you manage to leverage on something like python dataframes?

I use MC for simulation. The MC bar magnifier feature allows for fairly accurate trade simulation at tick level. Other factors like data quality, instrument liquidity, and strategy implementation enhance the accuracy, especially in regards to order fill capability.

What MC or NT can’t do is multi-variable event driven simulation analysis, but I’m not aware of any off the shelf platform with this capability. This would demand some customization using analysis specific connectors (R, Python, Excel) or a build-from-scratch solution. Good luck with the latter.

As far as order book dynamics (bid/ask) go, that’s a whole different animal. Even with the right software, I’d say it’s a futile effort for a retail trader.

Thanks for that. I just skimmed through it. I guess everyone decides what leaps of faith they’re comfortable with, and then move forward from there. I chose the path of least resistance with some trade-offs, and I’m comfortable with that. All peaches and cream solutions don’t exist in this business.

That summarizes everything.

From the moment somebody installs something on your PC you are vulnerable. You are never sure thatbyou are safe as you can never know for 100% what they exactly install.

People who can access your source code, can steal it without leaving any trace. Ask the Russians who are working for Putin. The US is still working hard to proof hacking, which shows how difficult it is to proof, even for tje US who has unlimited means. But proving the opposite is impossible too.

I used Russian software that worked with DLL injections. Later I found other software doing the same job without DLL injection. Why did the Russians need DLL injections?

Till Snowdon proved what the NSA did, nobody believed, or at least, could not proof what NSA did in reality. And when you can proof it, it is already too late.

I had very lenghty conversations with MC about all this. And based on what they told, I decided what you wrote: "I guess everyone decides what leaps of faith they’re comfortable with, and then move forward from there."
