Why? Incompetence and Bureaucracy

Actually the American Automobile Manufacturers committed suicide all on their own. Am I the only one who remembers Detroit's CEOs claiming year after year that "no one wants those 'little' cars" in the face of annually rising sales of those 'little' imported cars? -- cars that proved, more reliable, better designed and engineered than what Detroit was offering.

Advertising can carry you just so far. Failure to compete with a better product will wreck a business. In the end, you have to make something people want more than something else. And too those bad decisions by U.S. Execs, like this one: http://www.economist.com/node/3473604, did not help.

The American industries were just destroyed by one single American, who knew very well how to teach Japanese using statistical analytics for their future Japanese products to meet customers' needs statistically, while the American industries always believed and still firmly believe they have better and smarter answers and ways than this visionary American guy - Deming!

One could say that corruption killed Detroit. Others could say that the emergence of Japanese automobiles in America in the late 1970s killed Detroit. Others could say that greedy managements offshoring with the blessing of NAFTA killed Detroit. Others could say that union autoworkers refusal to make wage/benefit concessions killed Detroit.

In reality, they are probably all partly correct.

When China can set up and has demonstrated highly effective and successful various Special Economic Zone (SEZ) models, why the US cannot try and do the same for some import-substitution industries/products by lowering minimum wages (say by 50%) within the SZEs, while people working in SZEs can enjoy relatively lower living standards. (Or actually enjoying better living style in reality!)

At least, through this way of SEZs, all the citizens living in and around the zones (or travelling to the zones for work on weekdays) would have jobs to do, while the businesses operating in the zone would maintain minimal profits for growth.

Much better than nothing - No jobs, No investment opportunities, no competitive businesses, no energetic life through quietly awaiting government's grace to help them individually!

Theoretically, the cars made in SEZs could be selling almost 30%-50% cheaper if people individually go to the zones buy from makers directly without channelling any required middle man locally unless they want to for saving time and better after-sale service.

That kind of schemes would be not impossible to implement with adequate laws installed!

LOL

A special economic zone (SEZ) is an area in which business and trade laws are different from rest of the country. SEZs are located within a country's national borders, and their aims include: increased trade, increased investment, job creation and effective administration.

Alternatively, the current model is set up more and more Overseas War Zones (OWZs), perhaps. LOL

In order to maintain a reasonably low employment rate, through more overseas war-related deployment as well as arms manufacturing jobs locally, and arms exporting business internationally.

Not really a healthy or reasonable model at all! The costs for serving veterans are high for the future governments. Paying to war specialists firms has been proven also very high (see below chart).

An extremely expensive and unsustainable model at all!

You're looking at the great recession and the effect of Greenspan's zombie economics -- the thoroughly Republican idea that if you don't do anything the "market" will spontaneously resolve the problems it creates.

Sometimes, saying a prayer would be useful and comforting too!

sooo.... it seems like Blacks moved in, jobs moved out, Blacks rioted and burned the place, two million skilled White people moved out, only Democrats were left so they did their insanity stuff for a few decades and the place became a really insane shithole...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_will

Free will is the ability to choose between different possible courses of action unimpeded.[1][2] It is closely linked to the concepts of responsibility, praise, guilt, sin, and other judgments which apply only to actions that are freely chosen. It is also connected with the concepts of advice, persuasion, deliberation, and prohibition. Traditionally, only actions that are freely willed are seen as deserving credit or blame. There are numerous different concerns about threats to the possibility of free will, varying by how exactly it is conceived, which is a matter of some debate.
