Why highly intelligent people are NOT happy.

Quote from Illuminated One:

I am 147 IQ on standardized test from Stanford University.

I am so smart I even know that something like IQ points varies slightly from year to year from season to season.

Why the hell am I on ET...

I do not wish superior intellect on anyone.

ET? You will fit in much better posting here: http://www.dailyspeculations.com

the happiest people i have ever met ....wether smart, rich, poor or plain dumb have one thing in common and thats that they are living in the NOW....they take NOW with great enthusiasm..i guess they are just happy being able to breathe....while the angry not so happy people either live in the past or in the future, what the should have or could have had or dream to have which in essence doesnt make you a happy person.....

Quote from kinar:

extraordinary wisdom is far more of a burden than extraordinary intelligence

Not sure why you feel it is a burden; maybe that means someone like me is lacking in wisdom? Or is it that because of ones wisdom there comes a responsibility to oneself and to others....

I feel that many intelligent people; that are unhappy or "confused" are not necessarily intelligent.

I have no clue about the original poster, or if it is a "troll," but I will add my humble gram of wisdom. There are two aspects of intelligence, as the original poster states the ability to gather information (learn), but the second aspect is the ability to apply what you have learned. I see many intelligent people who think/know they are intelligent (high IQ, Harvard etc.) yet they are missing a good portion of the pie. They have trouble applying what they have learned. They have trouble competing. They have trouble dealing with IT... especially the ones who feel superior in some way (I could expand my thoughts on this but it is not necessary).

This is why I decided to reply. Nice contribution ElCubano. In my humble opinion, this is very much part of the solution to this issue (and many others). I just wish I could master it. Maybe before I die? :)

Good Day.

Quote from mschey:

For all but the few who suffer from depression, Being happy is a choice.
Few? According to some practitioners in the field, despite the proliferation of so-called anti-depressant medications, depression is a bigger problem than most people realize and is largely underdiagnosed. I don't know one way or the other, but I do agree that, in varying degrees, it may come down to a matter of choice for some, but not all, people.
