why haven't Russian hackers solved the stockmarket yet?

I agree, they probably doing it. What I would do is hacking brokers and backing highly profitable traders. Brokers are not allowed to do that and they make enough from commissions, but hackers, they can back anyone they want. They have other ways they can take advantage of knowing the order flow...
OK now I know why the highly profitable trading methodology I figured out yesterday from reading DeltaRisk's posts stopped working. The Russians hacked into my account last night.:finger:

People with hacking/cracking backgrounds have become traders as they've gotten older. For black hat hackers, it's much easier to do other types of crimes that pay much more and are clear in nature (vs. the market). Besides, it's not like the black hats are guys in their room - they're organized and financed/controlled by the Russian mob.

HFT is a kind of hack of the stock market prices. It is surprising that milli-micro second front running and order spoofing etc. has been allowed by SEC for so long and is still going on.

Also some hackers have gotten into company computers and found out about the earnings calls and taken positions to profit repeatedly.

However, we only know about these after they were caught.

By "solving" you mean a legal way of trading ? ie. no insider info/hacking accounts etc.

Hacking have little to do with speculation. Hacking has "logical" mechanics - break the set parameters of encryption and it's "solved" in a hacking sense. Market prices which is a reflection of human emotions do not.

I fail to see how hacking skills imply good trading. Rather, I would interpret your question as Russian hackers are "smart" so why they havn't dominated markets. Being "smart" in a nontrading sense is often perceived as a disadvantage in the trading world.

Summed up in one of my favorite XKCD slides (from https://xkcd.com/1570/)

For example? I think hacking a broker and have access to trading records and real time trades is one of the cleanest crime there is. After all you only steal info and nobody actually gets hurt.

Let's say you find one trader who is excellent at swing stock trading, but he doesn't realize that there is more efficient ways to make profits aka options. Thus a hacker can use this stock trader's picks and back the truck and trade options at another brokerage. Very hard to prove and who is the victim???
