Why Fat is the Preferred Fuel for Human Metabolism

Quote from LEAPup:

...Bodybuilding is imo 70% about the food, the other 30% is about proper REST/RECOVERY, how you lift what you're lifting (i.e., proper form over massive weight and sloppiness), and supplementation...
That's all well and good, but I recall you posted a pic some time ago. If I had to bet a dollar, I'd say that your supplementation included some 'roids.

If I go vegan, can I still do heroin?

No, Pek, heroin is a refined drug. You may, however, chew on the whole poppies :D

Quote from LEAPup:

I'm a former competitive bodybuilder, and yes, I do eat meat. I like buffalo, and venison for red meats, but mainly consume fish, egg whites, and skinless chicken. (legumes too) ZERO deepfried stuff, or ribeye steaks, etc.

Sounds like you avoid the scariest foods. That's better than 95% of the people I know. Watch out for the fish. Sadly, even fish from the most remote regions pack way too many toxins in their flesh. And the farmed fish have a whole separate set of problems :(

To the person asking about B12 and O-3's. My B12 levels were excellent after 5 years, but I do eat nutritional yeast, which is a source. Your body stores enough B12 to do well for about 7 years. You only need a tiny amount of it. It comes from dirt. Our soils are so depleted that even if you left the dirt on your veggies, you wouldn't get much B12. Organic produce may fare better in that regard. I've no idea.

The healthiest sources of omega-3's are flax seeds and walnuts. Beans are also a very good source.

Fish is a decent source of O-3's, but it's nearly impossible to find fish with low enough levels of toxins to make it worth the risk. Sardines and herring come to mind, but most people eat the larger and more toxic fish.

3% is generally considered "essential" fat (CNS/yellow marrow, etc). Below 3% and you risk debilitation (AA-cascade). No worries as the body makes it very difficult to burn that last 3%... you will be burning muscle and organs at that point. :p

"The guy runs 80 miles at a time starting in the desert at night, and ending in San Diego by morning. "

I wouldn't get too close to that dude, he has issues. Only way I run 80 mi is if King Kong takes a liking to my ass, decides he wants to do me and last for 79.5 mi.

Hey Banjo, I think I recall you running like that once when an earthquake hit while you were trading :p

Yes, and the aching, and colds/flu's I was getting with my "saran wrap skin," was literally driving me nuts! It takes ALOT to compete, and I'm glad I did it. Would I do it now? Probably not. Too much other stuff going on in my life. Going from around 8-9% bodyfat down to the 3.5-4% range is TOUGH. It's almost like going into combat with yourself at that stage from what I've experienced. Going from 15-16% to 9-10% is easy (for me.) It's the 8-9% to 3-4% that kicks my ass.

And as far as burning muscle, and organs, I agree completely! There are NO supplements that will keep the muscle at the 3-4% range. It's pure catabolism at that point. Not a healthy condition to be in for me...

Couple weeks ago, i went in to see the Dr about my final hormone shot (had prostate cancer), must have been revenge for the doll i stood up years ago), i passed on the final shot because the PSA results have been "ZERO" for over a year now. Anyway, i asked the blood Dr why the glucose was at 104 and indicated as "H". he asked if i fasted, i said no, he said you should ALWAYS fast before blood work. he said you are fine, your tests have been really super for 68.

Donna helped me out a whole lot on eating better, i am so grateful for that. I dropped totally, cheese, lunchmeats, regular milk, most candy, all Frito Lay products, much less Coca Cola, all fat chicks, most yucky foods period.

I feel much better, need to increase the exercise credentials but improving. Rice or soy milk, more fruits and veggies ( i always a very good veggie eater)..

Diet helps, believe it.

Plain coconut milk!
