Why do the academic guys hate Technical analysis?

yep.

plus they get annoyed when TA guys make $$$

plus most aspects of TA are statistically meaningless; it's application of TA that defines your "edge" and that's why it's an art. but it's still gambling, and knowing when to run (or reverse) is a huge part of your "edge"
