why do stocks move so slowly

Super low volitility. There ain't no bubble buyers, and the dipheads haven't caught on yet to the fact that the market is rotten to the core.
There will be some movement one of these days, and I'll guess it will be to the downside. In the meantime, we have start... stop... jump... wait.... burst... flail for hours with a sudden jerk lasting a very few minutes that turns out to be the movement of the day.
Tough market.

Silk, unless you NEED to trade stocks for some psychological reason(s) you should try trading forex.
EUR/USD has awesome moves all the time. So much so that most traders bite it on them.
They certainly separate the men from the boys. We trade 24 hours a day and are the biggest market on earth - 1.5 to 3 trillion dollars a DAY.

There is very little "dumb" money propelling things.
Most players nowadays are more competitive and even the "little guy" has more information and better tools.
Moreover, the *BIG* problem is that the market is more than fully priced but at the same time there is no other serious alternative for people to put their money.
So, you end up small intraday ranges.
Most moves on the upside occur not so much from heavy buying but from lack of sellers.

He wasn't complaining about buying power. Which is pretty much all futures offer.
Part of the reason market is also so **%@*$! up IS because of futures! Look at how it's manipulated to suck up your pocket change!
