Why do people use Volume, Range and Tic charts?

I'll be away from the computer for a few hours guys. If you have any questions I will get to them later. Mom's in the hospital and it's not good. Poor lady is 90 and has contracted MRSA while being treated for a compression fracture.

I repeat . . .

We are not talking about Tick charts. When you can figure out the difference, get back with us.

HoustonMark perfectly answered your question.

(CONSTANT VOLUME BAR CHART INCREMENTS not Tick Bars) Not superior just different based on trading preference; Scalp, Intraday, Swing, Postion or Long Term.

wow this is like pulling teeth. clearly the charts posted are showing bars created by a certain volume increment....what is this volume increment and why is it used? if its not considered superior to any other volume figure why else would it be used?

furthermore what is swingtrading or scalping with the time element removed? the inconsistencies and answers here are indicating a very subjective method not an objective testable method as claimed.

best wishes to p.logics mother.

Sorry to hear about this. Hopefully her health will take turn for the better.

Surf,

Here is my post from several pages back. I explained your question in it.

One number is not superior to another. The number is chosen based on ones style and holding period. I personally trade on short term basis and therefore have small volume bar size.

I also prefer volume bars to tic becuase the signals are seen on them much clearer. If somene sends few large orders (let's say 3) into the market, they will be peresented in tic charts as just 3 trades. Where volume bars, the chart can paint several bars thus letting you know that something is going on.

Here is a typical Intraday trade. Typical as in, happens on every Intraday chart everyday.

Typical Specific Objective Oscillation/Trigger Entry
Typical Specific Objective Oscillation/Trigger Exit

Objective whether Scalp, Intraday, Swing, Position or Long Term.

Testable and verifiable because it is objective.

Mom is stable as well. Thanks for the thoughts.

constant volume bars .....what makes a certain volume to create a bar superior to another volume?

And it shall be asked, what makes a certain time bar to create
a bar superior to another time?...:p

clever :D

however, not relevant.

time is a constant, hence the time bars would equate to trading time frame.

constant volume bars is a user chosen variable, with ( i would hope), an ideal volume to form. what is this ideal and why is it ideal for any trading time frame..... but wait--- you don't use time in the formation of the bars only volume-- still waiting for why a certain volume is chosen over another--- what is this the holy grail?? the big secret that one can't divulge??

thank you,

This will be my last response to surf on this topic.

Your question has been asked and answered by numerous people on this thread. There is no ideal volume.

Your continuing to ask this means that either you don't understand it or are asking for provocative reasons.

Your use of the loaded terms in your question of "but wait", "holy grail", and "big secret" suggests that the purpose of the question is provocation. ProfLogic has not withheld any "big secret" and there is no volume bar size that is the "holy grail". I continue to believe that you are being provocative.

If you truly don't understand this after the excellent explanations given, then please stop asking them over and over again on this thread. The answer to this question is here and should be understandable without more comment.
