Quote from Comptalk:
All I can tell you is I started in 1999 with, yes $5k in my account. I slowly traded back and forth and grew it today at a total worth of a little over 198k. Granted, it is not a lot compared to what others have earned; but turning a 5k investment into a profit of a 193k part time (also took off 2001 - 2003) is not that bad. I am no one special. I read the IBD, Barrons, books, watch CNBC, educate myself. Were there some bad losses, yea, but the most I ever lost was 2k on a 18k trade. I usually buy small 250 - 500 positions on anywhere from 12 - 15 stocks. I am trying to get into it more and more; but it is still something I do on the side. If I can start making 30k - 50k a month, then maybe. But the best teacher is your own mistakes. Not to just loose the money, but why and what caused the downfall. It takes time to learn and get used to the market. Patience is probably one of the most important things. One of my stocks just recently went down to 9.00 when I bought it at 10.50. I had to wait about a week and I sold it at 11.75 on 850 shares. Not a lot, but I like to spread my risks out in different stocks and sectors. I am still to worried in dumping 30k on one stock. Possibly in a few more months, but right now, most of my buys are from 10k - 20k; depending on the stock. I did well on EBAY. Bought a few weeks ago at 25.00, just sold it for over 28.4. Experience is the key. At least it works for me... Most of the time...
