why do many traders give seminars etc..?

Quote from Thunderdog:

Then why spend $5k on what you can pick up in any reasonable trading-related book for under $50? And you cover a lot more ground in a book than in a seminar.

Because people cannot understand what is written in a book. They think they understand when reading, but they do not.

In a word: Marketing. The way these teachers market their seminars make it seem to the masses that they will be taught "secrets" available no where else.

It's basically the same reason some people still fall for the Amway scam, Carlton Sheets Real Estate programs, or any other myriad of money making schemes you see on late night infomercials.

Don't get me wrong I don't think paying 5k/week for a class is a smart thing to do, but if I thought I could sell a 5k/week class I would do it in a heartbeat. I wouldn't buy a turd for $5 but I'd sure as shit sell one for $5.

Yes, nothing quite so focuses the mind as unnecessarily spending $5,000, eh?
:D

That is a good point, but it applies only if you are ready to pay 50K for the education. Otherwise you may be asked: who are you to ask that I show you my statement for your little nut of $1K.

Good point.
It makes sense that if someone was making a 7+ figure income a year trading and had multiple year P&L statements to verify that fact, they SHOULD be charging at least $50K for their class.

I get a kick when I talk to my nephew who has spent $200K on his legal education over 6 years (not counting his scholarship & extra moneys). He has 2 MBA's and a PhD to show for his hard work and now complains that the $300K job offer, straight out of law school, was less than he thought he was worth.

If you have something serious to say about what I said then I welcome the debate.

No, the subject of Maverickz is closed.

Oh don't get me wrong I didn't say they would teach you their exact "edge". The best I can gather most training seminars only teach people the market basics.

come on when did you see copy that said this?

They tell the "suckers" After attending my $2,000+ seminar you will have a $100K+ home based business that is dead easy to run. etc...

I too fell for this 15+ year ago when I was a newbie.... Now I know the seminar was/is a scam. It's still going around.

I agree with the "finding agold mine story." If you seriously found a "Golden Goose" why would you rush out and try to sell it?

Ok thank you anyway.

Quote from chipper:

I read it many times...

"I made X million over X years and i am such a great trader..blah,blah."

Buy my course, sign up for my newsltter, attend my seminar for $2,000+

WHY do they do this? Oh yeah they always say "My passion is to teach..." So why the $2,000+ price tag then? If it's your callnig and you make sooo much money in the markets why not do it for free or give all your profits to charity?

I mean straight away I lose a lot of repsect for these traders. Why waste your tme hawking your methods around and why show the masses how you make money? Talk about killing it.

Good traders should trade. End of.

You need to take this further to include everything.

* Why do traders give seminars for a fee???

* Why do traders hang out at discussion forums and freely share their methods???

There's a lot of commonalities between the two types of traders teaching their methods while one feels like he/she should be financially compensated.

Regardless if a fee is involved or not...

Most isn't worth the time and energy to learn it while there's a few out there that's worth the time and energy to learn it.
