U.S. Marines end role in Iraq
BAGHDAD (AP) â The U.S. Marine Corps wrapped nearly seven years in Iraq on Saturday, handing over duties to the Army and signaling the beginning of an accelerated withdrawal of American troops as the U.S. turns its focus away from the waning Iraqi war to a growing one in Afghanistan.
The Marines formally handed over control of Sunni-dominated Anbar, Iraq's largest province, to the Army during a ceremony at a base in Ramadi â where some of the fiercest fighting of the war took place.
If all goes as planned, the last remaining Marines will be followed out by tens of thousands of soldiers in the coming months. President Obama has ordered all but 50,000 troops out of the country by Aug. 31, 2010, with most to depart after the March 7 parliamentary election.
As many as 25,000 Marines were in Iraq at the peak, mostly in Anbar province. The few thousand who remain â except for U.S. Embassy guards and advisers in Baghdad â are expected to ship out in a matter of weeks.

You are asking such stupid questions. For your information, 90% of Iranian people have no problem being friends with Americans. It's the Iranian government that is stuck in religion and the dark ages. So would you still attack a nation and kill its innocent people for no reason OR would you rather try to get them to come to the negotiation table?
Besides, the US government has absolutely no fucking right to go around and attack nations under false pretenses, of protecting its citizens and its homeland security.
On a related note: I look forward to someday it be revealed to the public that the whole 911 attacks were the work of the US government itself, killing 3000 innocent people and then blaming it on others. There are many implosion experts who believe that the buildings, as shown in many videos from different angles, did not collapse solely due to the forces of collisions by planes, but due to controlled demolition by implosions. Even non-experts have a hard time believing that the plane crashes alone could cause such "nice and beautiful" demolitions.

Frankly leaving now in an orderly fashion with some semblance of a democratic government in place is good. Perhaps the Iraqis can continue it but the historical weight in the area is on some strongman emerging and taking control. Fine. We did our thing there and its time to leave. Let them govern themselves as they will.
