Why can't I start cooking chicken while still frozen?

This from wiki:

Do not cook frozen chicken in the microwave or in a slow cooker. However, chicken can be cooked from the frozen state in the oven or on the stove. The cooking time may be about 50% longer. Some advise against cooking frozen meat and poultry altogether; with chicken, always check the temperature with a food thermometer to ensure proper cooking.

This from cookingtips:

Can I cook frozen chicken, or do I have to let it defrost first?
In a pinch, go ahead, but allow extra cooking time. For the best texture and tenderness, however, you're better off starting from refrigerator temperatures; you can be more sure of getting an evenly cooked product.

What time is dinner :p

Hmm, interesting. Seems like there are so many different opinions on this matter. No consensus.

I'm hungry and feel like cooking a chicken breast, but they're all frozen rock solid. Maybe I'll just throw it in the oven... and slap some barbeque sauce on it half way through cooking.
