Why can't I delete my own message?

I believe the reasoning with this, is that if you can delete an entire thread, then it would be possible to erase others that have posted in your thread in the first half hour...then they would all be here complaining about that!

So you can delete single posts but not entire threads...even if they were started by you.

That's correct. You can't delete your own post if it's the first one in the thread, because doing so would wipe out the replies of others. You can however, request that the thread be closed to new replies.
