Why Bother Working?

And yet they qualified.
It's interesting, typical reps' "cheater detection" is on high when considering the poor, yet their party defends the parasites at the top who merely inherit wealth and rent it out for a "living". The latter part of my statement is my own cheater detection on high--and I tend to ignore the parasites at the bottom.

... and yet these fraudulent payments are driving the Social Security system into failure. As a whole the entire SS system can no longer fund full payments by 2032. The actual SSDI component is no longer capable of funding payments by 2016, and will be forced to take money from the mainline social security funds once again.

Who does this hurt? Social Security is retirement for the "little people", not the "parasites at the top". The disability fraud is once of the key drivers of causing the break-down of the U.S. Social Security system.... but feel free "to ignore the parasites at the bottom", but don't complain when you don't get your social security payments.

Again, it's not fraud if the recipients qualify. But the right blames the recipient -- who applied and qualified -- rather than the judge who declared that the recipient qualified. Sterilizing the recipient isn't going to remedy the situation if the judges continue to qualify those who do not meet the standards of the right.

We should squarely be blaming the person who knowingly submitted a fraudulent application in which they claimed to have a disability they did not really suffer from. This effectively takes money away from applicants who actually have real disabilities and properly qualify for the program.

That's the knee-jerk reaction. The person submitting the application is not to blame. The person granting the request is to blame.

If you guys really want to fix the system, then fix the process rather than demonize the applicant. The applicants can't draw disability if their requests are never granted.

Well, let's just blame all the law firms with TV commercials saying that you need to call in immediately to get disability from the federal government and nearly anyone can qualify. Let's blame the scam-artist medical practices that the lawyers send the applicants to, and will fraudulently state in writing that the applicant suffers from a host of disabling medical conditions.

Sounds like you simply want to blame everything on the overloaded, hard-working government employees. How come you pick on these overloaded public servants who don't even make $50K per year? But you rather do this then hold the applicants who knowingly are submitting false information responsible.

Because the "overloaded public servants" are approving the applications.

If you wipe the rolls of every recipient who does not qualify after review but do nothing to change the process, then in a few months you'll be right back where you started.

Treat the cause, not the symptom.

By 2032... when most of the boomers are gone.

Db is trying to confuse two separate issues. One, is people who submit fraudulent applications. The people who claim a bad back or fake a mental disorder when they are fine. They deserve our contempt.

The other issue is the system itself. As Sen. Coburn said, it is basically a coin flip who qualifies. So the standards are too vague, the people doing the evaluation are incompetent, or the system is overloaded with intentional fraud. But let's devote all our FBI resources to Ferguson , MO because that's the real problem in this country, not enough racial discord.
