why are there no other brokers compete directly with IB?

the new broker can directly copy those IB features, even same API interface. is that hard?
Not everything can be simply coded. For example taking on foreign customers, providing market data via api, clearing, etc. IB seems to have some weight and relationships with exchanges and regulators that smaller firms may never have.

I call it via cron (not using ib_insync).

not sure what you mean. We have gateway loosing connection every day slightly
Past midnight EST. within 15-20 min it comes back. But it creates headache if we happen to have a previously submitted trade being executed at this time.

You may want to raise a ticket at IB and ask them if they have a solution for you.

The industry is fortunate to have the "one stop shop" of IB for those who want access to "everything". It takes a lot of money, resources, back office, etc. to provide that. Few brokers would be interested in providing the logistics for all that and rather choose a more limited offering of services.

Years ago I was part of an "all service" personal financial brokerage. At some point we decided to eliminate the parts which didn't produce much revenue and became more specialized... doing "more and more of less and less" was better for our bottom line.

You're talking about the data server reset? Those are different for each time zone, you might want to use another server so the reset happens during a time when you're unlikely to have a trade. What are you trading anyway?

We trade CME futures, and any reset will present the same issue. We connecting to US farms. It is just mind boggling that in 2020, gateway would loose connection every day. We leaving IB for another broker unfortunately.

Which broker do you go to?

IB is a public company, worth 20B. there are lots of traders like me who want to switch, but there is no second broker which can directly compete with IB on the following features at the same time:
1) API support
1) low commision
2) low margin rate
3) broad market to trade

there are so many brokers competing for occasional app/web traders, but no other brokers want to compete directly with IB, why?
  • There absolutely are not lots of traders like you, whose needs are not met or exceeded by IB.
  • This is the 3rd thread you've started on this topic. People have repeatedly referred you to Lightspeed and @rmorse . Have you spoken with him yet? What requirements is Lightspeed not fitting for you?
