Fighting about symbolism is pretty much doing nothing. If they had any substance they'd attempt to create sensible legislation or help their cause otherwise. But hey, that's difficult, much easier and more fun to just destroy shit, so that's what they do. Look at the interviews with the violent protesters, their whole ideology is based on a lecture or reading a few hours online. They've never been challenged to think critically.
Ironically, do you know who else destroyed statues, burned books and eliminated other historical items? Yup, the Nazis.
