P.S. If "nobody belives in global warming", why is it so controversial? The fabrication is all from you global-warming deniers.

New Rule: Al Gore must come out with a sequel to his movie about climate change and call it An Inconvenient Truth 2: What the Fuck Is Wrong with You People?

A bunch of depressing new surveys reveal that people in droves are starting to believe that global warming is a hoax -- and this time, it's not just us. People are always accusing me of hating America and calling it stupid, so tonight I'd like to take a few moments to hate England and call it stupid. Because now English people don't believe in global warming either. I thought the English were smarter than that. The home of Newton and Darwin. I can't believe we let these people build our exploding oil platforms.
Even scarier is why people have stopped thinking global warming is real. One major reason pollsters say is we had a very cold, snowy winter. Which is like saying the sun might not be real because last night it got dark. And my car's not real because I can't find my keys.
That's the problem with our obsession with always seeing two sides of every issue equally -- especially when one side has a lot of money. It means we have to pretend there are always two truths, and the side that doesn't know anything has something to say. On this side of the debate: Every scientist in the world. On the other: Mr. Potato Head.
There is no debate here -- just scientists versus non-scientists, and since the topic is science, the non-scientists don't get a vote. We shouldn't decide everything by polling the masses. Just because most people believe something doesn't make it true. This is the fallacy called argumentum ad numeram: the idea that something is true because great numbers believe it. As in: Eat shit, 20 trillion flies can't be wrong.
Or take this recent headline: "TV weathercasters divided on global warming." Who gives a shit? My TV weathercaster is a bimbo with big tits who used to be on a soap opera on Telemundo. Media, could you please stop pitting the ignorant versus the educated and framing it as a "debate"? The other day, I saw a professor from the Union of Concerned Scientists face off against a distinguished expert on Tea Partying, whose brilliant analysis, recently published in the New England Journal of Grasping at Straws, was that we shouldn't teach climate science in schools because kids find it scary. As they should. I hope they're peeing in their pants.
The last decade, year, and month are all the hottest on record. Then there's the killing of the oceans, floods, Category 5 hurricanes, heat waves, giant wild fires, and the vanishing water supply. You know, the little things. And yet deniers say, it's just a theory. As is gravity.
...
You need to talk to the other conservatives posting in this thread. They obviously have a religious objection to ANY kind of global warming.Quote from jem:
Why doesn't maher shows the facts which prove man made global warming.
I will grant him global warming...
He has to grant me that earth has a history of warming and cooling.
Now.. show me that man has significantly influenced warming....
Now that we know you cant prove man made global warming.. lets respond to pollution in a rational manner.
All good points. Thanks for presenting a reasoned response instead of a knee-jerk diatribe that is so typical of GW deniers.Quote from rew:
There are three things the author failed to consider. The first is that people believe what they want to believe, unless reality forces the truth down their throats. It is highly unpleasant to think that human caused global warming is real because that would mean that certain aspects of your life, such as having cheap electricity or a car, might be nonviable over the long term. The second is that some politically correct scientists at the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit decided to censor dissenting views and withhold information from dissenting scientists, as revealed in the "climate gate" e-mail controversy. That gave people just the excuse they needed to label the whole global warming thing a hoax.
Finally, Al Gore, Mr. Global Warming, owns a mansion that uses many times the electricity of the average American house. So when they see America's biggest exponent of global warming profiting off the theory while living a hypocritical lifestyle they find it hard to take him seriously.
Reading impaired as usual, I see. I was responding to the ridiculous claim that "nobody belives[sic] in global warming", not a claim that global warming doesn't exist. I would respond the same way to a ridiculous claim that "nobody belives[sic] in God", which is independent of whether or not God exists.Quote from CaptainObvious:
Would you use the same argument in regard to the existance of God? God must exist because of all the controversy that surrounds the Atheist deniers? That would be silly, now wouldn't it?
The hottest years on record (since 1880) have all occurred in the last decade. It's a fact from NASA, not a fabrication from Al Gore. But of course a denier like you would never consider that to be evidence. You need the actual destruction to occur before you get a clue.Quote from CaptainObvious:
The reason for all the controversy is exactly the same for religion and global warming...NO PROOF! Fabricating proof isn't proof, and the global warming cultists have been exposed to have tampered with the evidence. The "idiots" are those that believe in someone's nonsense after the evidence has proven otherwise. If Maddoff was still looking for investors, Global Warming cultists would be a prime market.
