Quote from ElCubano:
1 person stiffing a lender didnt cause bankruptcies, recession, soaring unemployment. That person is only accountable for what that mortgage did for them....they didnt do anything illegal, it was perfectly legal to get 150% of the house value, to buy an overexpensive house and have money for a 1 year to live like a king.....It is ultimately the lenders fault who looked the other way because the commssions where hefty and now has to go bankrupt, fire people and cause their stock to tumble.....

Quote from Chagi:
For what it is worth, I completely agree. I personally feel that the primary responsibility belongs to the lenders. Nobody can get a mortgage unless a lender a) has an appropriate product and b) specifically approves each individual borrower.
McDonald's would indeed be looking into the abyss if they had given away their cheeseburgers as the banks gave away money.Quote from Trader666:
McDonalds doesn't make people fat and lenders didn't force adults to live beyond their means and sign legally binding contracts they either knew they couldn't honor or were too lazy/stupid to understand.
