That's just it.

Iran has never attacked another country since few thousand years ago.

They always defended never attacked. The reason people in the west believe Iran is a boogyman is because of carefully skewed media that servers military war interests.

Uhm, there was this thing called the Persian Empire. Surely some of that territory was obtained by military means, no?

I agree. Here are just a couple of other examples. Iran attacked the US when it invaded the US embassy and took Americans hostage. In addition, Iran fights proxy wars by funding Hezbollah and Hamas. In 2006, Hezbollah started a war with Israel. Hezbollah is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Iran.
