Who Thinks Swing Trading is Dangerous?

I have held positions for years if they continue to move in my direction.
The one rule I have is to not hold any losers in my portfolio.

That is one rule all traders need to learn. Cut your losses and let your winners run. That is the only way you will make huge sums of monies in the stockmarket.

LOL, love reading all these posts. So many are wrong IMHO, scalping/day trading has proven to me to have greatest risk. Especially in scalping, in ES have to risk 8 ticks and targeting 3 ticks, doing 200-300 trades a day. Risk is huge compared to averaging less than a tick on average profit. Been fortunate to not been trading on last meltdown in 2010.

Swinging like anything in trading is a calculated gamble, and risk can be reduced using TA properly and by learning how to hedge.

Smallest time-frames require highest winning percentages, as time-frames increase normally winning percentages decrease and profits should increase greater than risk, if hedging correctly, risk decreased more. By time trading daily/weekly charts, risk very small and rewards should be huge cause winning percentages are far less unless one has learned hedging well.

Holy Grails take enormous amount of time, money and perseverance. Have to think outside of reality actually, BUT one needs to listen to other traders on what they can't achieve and say can't be done. I read ET to discover where many lose consistently.
Swinging options, wished I got more into them decades ago. By far options has largest winning percentages possible and I don't use the Greeks but do use TA. Have taught to one guy and he over 200 trades without a lose. And no NOT teaching it to others.
But I got the idea from ET.

Those who dream of huge wealth trading, it going to cost much, easier if you befriend a programmer to test ideas first than trade blindly.

Good Evening Handle123,

Thanks for sharing your journey and results.

Very inspirational indeed. Thank you:)

Stop = 50-60 per day of expected hold.
I would deleverage first and use SPY or MES until you work the bugs out. And you will work them out....:D :fistbump:

Good but he does NOT like the wide bid\ask;
same here ,about 80-95%of the time.
But good play on words, M= mini mum;
or Market in CAN SLIm.
There is one advantage on wide\bid ask;
only skilled swing traders or wide time frame day trader would do that.
And dont forget to save the horse feed[edit or chicken feed ]bags/rinse + repeat:caution::caution:

What if a whole portfolio falls under ,,black swan'', say ~15% on average at the open per position, - you will cut everything ?

It hasn't happened yet. Flash crash was close but I didn't sell anything.
My plan calls for me to see what happens by the end of the day.
The following day if price trades below the low of the day then I close the position.
I trail a stop below the prior day after that.
What I have found is that so far I have had ample time to exit in situations like 2008, 2020 and 2022.

I've included that to show (for those who don't know ES) how much you can lose per lot. How many lots I've actually traded isn't debatable. Sorry :)

I lost $2,500+/ more , but not more than 7-0r9 times;
Argentina Hi volume gamebird shoot. Plus ammo cost 5x what its in USA, but that's life.[Good thing for me i shot more than average in USA but less than average in Argentina/Uruguay]
I dont even really consider a vacation like that an undesirable loss .
Even though opportunity cost = more than that.
AS far as stock market/derivative markets;
they need to fraction contract chop ES like IBKR ad \$3,000AMZN price fraction chopped down to $25.Disclosure \nothing herein is a buy. Bid \ask most likely is more,but a lost less than an Argentina gamebird shoot
May not do any FRI-mon shorts or inverse related, many markets closed mon....

Holding overnight in this market is too dangerous until we fall to significant support levels or the trend clearly changes. Scalping is where its at and even that takes expertise in this market. Its very difficult but you have some great traders that understand it and can thrive.
