Here's one for My Pal Max.....

Who is the champion of cut and paste posts?

Wild?
Traderfut?
Other candidates???


I must admit....I rarely read the cut and pastes. I occasionally click on links, but if they are from politically predictable sources, I wont read them, because we all know what their points will be.

On the other hand, I ALWAYS click on the "links" of Optional777, because I know I will be amused.

And if I see a link posted by Babak, then I will take a quick gander. Because I know he won't steer us to some politically un-objective propaganda (a la Traderfut or Wild).

But who am I missing? Who is the all time #1 cut and paste champ?

I realize this is an important thread. It should explain why I am a big fan of Fasterpussycat....he is an original (except for tonight when he plagiarized Henny Youngman, but everyone gets a pass once in a while).

Am I the only one that finds these cut and pasters to be desperate to prove a point over and over and over and over again? Does anyone else find this objectionable?

(Obviously bored....wife working tonight....)

yeah wild and TF are the two big guns... wild, especially, has been on a tear lately. perhaps with the spectre of war looming closer he feels that last ditch mass propaganda campaign might yet save the day...

other notables would be vvv and TigerO (hmmm... must be a liberal thing...)

i'm convinced thunderbolt resorted to this tactic during the atheism debates too.. .although he didn't disclose it...

personally i never bother reading the cut and pastes. i want to know what the POSTER thinks, not what his favorite publication thinks. i want to speak to the elitetrader, not to some anonymous journalist.

Ditto. And yeah, I forgot about VVV and TigerO. Good call Dan. And no doubt that Thunderbolt was doing it..but in his own way. Just brainwashed, so he had no original thoughts.

And hey, give me a break on the liberal guff.....all extremists are equally guilty. Certainly you can't make cut and paste a political issue. You know that I am to the left of you...but at least we can dialogue and agree to disagree. I don't need someone to make my arguments for me, just like you don't.

Which brings me back to your earlier inquiry Dan...Can you see why me wanting to be the Pope would hinder my ability to kill for money ? ("Could You Resist" thread).

Now we can assume safely that Sweden is neutral. So that can't be it. And old Al himself invented nitroglycerine, a favorite of Palestinian "freedom fighters" (suicide bombers). So that can't be it. Is it possible that Islam just prefers to stay stuck in the past? I KNOW that there are brilliant Islamic men (and women.....maybe not with the educational opportunities of the men, but hey, can't have it all).

Does all this prove anything? Probably not. And I would not have posted it if Traderfut had not endlessly dwelled on how Arafat was a recipient. (the fix was obviously in.....must have been a quota, or maybe Clinton used his clout to make the guy feel like he was cornered into going for peace...didn't work).

Hey, those Arabs don't live human lives like us. They are at odds with the world 24-hours a day, so how can they have the time to write Nobel Prize-winning books, tinker around in expensive laboratories and create films? They're lucky if they can get through a day with food on the table!

During my time as an editor at The Peak, I have taken every opportunity to author pieces that portrayed Arabs in a different light than that of your daily newspaper and in a format even you liberal-minded students of the 21st century are unaccustomed to. Among others, the reviews of the film West Beirut by Rami Doueiri and the book The Journey of Ibn Fattouma by Nobel Prize-winning author Naguib Mahfouz, illustrated that Arab people have real concerns similar to yours.

These cultural pieces received no feedback, no comment - unlike, for instance, the more overtly political pieces that I've written. This is an example of a latent, and sometimes manifest, tendency to classify Arabs as a people who exist in an exclusively political atmosphere and frame of mind.

Popular representation of Arabs is aimed at dehumanisation. In the movie Best Defense, starring Eddie Murphy, Kuwaiti children throw stones at Murphy's tank. Murphy yells back "Okay, you desert rats, now you die!" and proceeds to mow them down. Chuck Norris went from fighting the Vietcong to fighting the Muslim or Arab (whatever, same thing, right?) "terrorist groups" (who can forget Delta Force?). These Arab 'villains' are always faceless and nameless.

The dehumanisation of Arabs is the one form of racism which remains widely accepted and openly used in the Western world. Black face and minstrel shows no longer exist, and what was "evil" communism is now the "new-left" fighting globalisation. The Arabs, however, remain faceless.

The trial of Timothy McVeigh is a good example of this. Here is a true terrorist in every sense of the word; he was trained to be a mercenary by his own government during his time in the army, and he was put to death six years after the Oklahoma bombing. McVeigh received airtime on American network television in order to defend himself, as the media portrayed him as a man with demons from the past and a bad childhood, who had a vendetta against the American government. His family was quoted in various media outlets, expressing remorse and "confusion" at how a man who served so honourably in the Gulf War could sink to such levels. Even near the time of his death McVeigh created massive debate about the death penalty.

The media presented him as a victim of the system who should be put to death for his crime, yet sympathised with because of the circumstances in which he found himself. Arab North Americans implicated in terrorist acts receive no airtime and are given no context or history. They are part of a group of fundamentalist people who don't have socio-political motivations or causes, and are terrorists because, hey, that's what Arabs do. We blow shit up!

Yeah, but how many of them were Israelis? You could probably count them on one hand. Let's face it, a Jewish professor at MIT has a better shot at winning a prize in Physics than an Arab professor at the University of Morocco...
 
who cares how many of them were Israelis. it's still quite an amazing accomplishment -- and i'm not comparing it to the number of arabs/muslims who have won it (let's be serious ...), the accomplishment stands on its own.
