I will agree that most companies donate to both sides of the aisle. However most large companies form PACs and donate directly to politicans while lobbying for issues they care about. For example, Cisco would lobby congressional members about internet policy.
It is odd that large corporations provide funding to the Center for American Progress (and to equivalent right-wing groups) that do not really represent the key business concerns of the companies.
Since this donated money is shareholder money - I would expect shareholders to raise a ruckus about donating to organizations that do not better the business needs of the company. The idea that top executives are driving political donations to organizations that are aligned to their personal views rather than corporate business direction should be a ethical issue.
