Who Funds the Far Left? You’ll Be Surprised

The Center for American Progress is a left-wing organization that is closely associated with the Obama administration. Its principal product is a web site called Think Progress. Think Progress is part of the internet cesspool that modern liberalism has become. Written by hack left-wing bloggers, it is bitterly hostile to free enterprise. It is a low-rent site that traffics in the most absurd smears and conspiracy theories. Many have wondered for some years who finances far-left web sites like Think Progress. As of today, we know at least part of the answer, as CAP released its corporate donor list for the first time.

CAP says that individuals and foundations account for more than 90% of its funding, and corporations only around 6%. It would be interesting to see the individual and foundation donor list; my guess is that left-wing foundations, most of which spend money left by dead conservatives, would loom large. But what corporations fund Think Progress’s anti-free enterprise propaganda? The full list is here; it includes:

* Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, one of Washington’s most powerful lobbyists.
* American Iron and Steel Institute
* America’s Health Insurance Plans, or AHIP
* Apple Inc.
* AT&T
* Bank of America
* Blackstone, one of the largest multinational private equity firms
* Blue Cross Blue Shield Association
* Citigroup
* The Coca-Cola Company
* Comcast NBCUniversal
* CVS Caremark Inc.
* Eli Lilly and Company
* Facebook
* GE
* Goldman Sachs
* Google
* Japan Bank for International Cooperation
* Microsoft Corporation
* Northrop Grumman, defense contractor
* PepsiCo
* Samsung
* Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States
* Time Warner Inc.
* Walmart
* Wells Fargo

I doubt that there is any conservative organization that can boast a remotely comparable list of corporate supporters. CAP’s disclosure is a timely reminder that large corporations are not, in general, supporters of free enterprise. Many of them love to partner with government to suppress innovation and competition. Koch Industries stands alone, as far as I know, as a relatively large company that actually supports free enterprise as a matter of principle. Which is why corporatist America, through disreputable organizations like the Center for American Progress, has waged unremitting warfare against Koch.

Ha ha ha ha ha. What a total piece of shit that article is and especially this last bit. The Koch bros are fought by intelligent people because they want their corporate interests to take precedent over everything else, including environmental concerns. They are the ones using the Tea Party/libertarian nitwits as pawns.

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) is blasting conservatives for opposing the $85-billion budget deal he reached with Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), a potential 2016 presidential candidate. Minutes after Ryan and Murray released their proposal on Tuesday, Rubio issued a press release claiming that the agreement would make it “harder for more Americans to achieve the American Dream.”
During an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Thursday morning, Ryan urged Rubio to “read the deal and get back to me.”

According to FBI statistics, approximately 150 people a year are killed in "mass murders" with guns. According to NCAR (the National Center for Atmospheric Research), approximately 400 people are hit by lightning each year. In other words, you're 2.6 times more likely to get hit by lightning than you are to be killed in a mass murder with a gun.

The FBI says that approximately 8,500 people are murdered with guns each year. Over 6,000 of those murders are gang-related. Maybe we should focus on gang killings since that's the cause of most of murders.

I imagine the same list donates to the Republican party to cover their bases....

That would be in-line with the notion that all politicians are one and same, no matter which ideology they pledge allegiance to. Just look how they dress, and tell me if you notice a difference (among the men, anyways)...

The #1 goal of most elected officials: Get re-elected.

How to do this?
1. Get funded
2. Don't piss off the donors
3. Don't commit in public to any one side of any intractable issue.
4. Tell your constituents what they want to hear without breaking rule #3.

Arguments over ideology is just silly once you accept the above as the real truth of American politics.

In the grand scheme of things - anything that gets your re-elected comes first. Ideology comes last.

Obviously we need congress to ban lightning.

Quote from jem:

fc is is a anti freedom, anti gun leftist... yet he owns a gun.
Making him a hypocrite as well.

Of course he installs electric heat and air units powered by coal fired electric plants then rails about global warming. So what did you expect?

Ah - an enlightened thinker.... :D

Why haven't more Republicans come out against domestic spying when it leaves them open to be Obama-gated a la Watergate in the next elections?

Before supporting anyone, force them to PROVE they are for reform by publicly stating they will tirelessly introduce legislation and vote for removing the Elitist perks of the Congress they serve in. If they do not, they must step down.

Force them to STOP FLAPPING THEIR LIPS ONLY. If they can't even rein-in their own abuses, how are they to be trusted to deal with anything bigger?

What is more often the case is that partisans are willing to be ruled by Elitists of their own party only, making them toadies for their "Massahs". What a fucking joke.

this is what happens when govt can be bribed.
it creates cronies.
then the govt tells the cronies they need this group funded so they can market their agenda.

the group then wants more govt contracts... it is disgusting.

no campaign bribes, term limits.
