White Privilege

FYI I think the cop in the Ferguson case used excessive force to the degree of 3rd degree murder, but I still don't think White Privilege is rampant in this country. Case in point, most rich people don't give a shit about anyone else if it costs them their own wealth. Most middle income jobs can be had working for the government which has very friendly practices towards hiring non-whites. In my own extended family which is mostly white, the two upper class families (of a total of 20 families or so) do nada for all the lower-middle class families which make up everyone else.
Actually sickle cells is a genetic advantage in Africa giving them a survival advantage against malaria, which is the biggest threat to life on the Continent.
As for your definition of white privilege in the present, look no further than the threat to white peoples lives if they choose to live in west Asia (Pakistan), the middle east, or parts of Africa. Being white there can get you killed for the color of your skin. Your response is probably that it is the fault of imperialism. Well we can look at modern day encounters between white people and communities untouched by civilization to see the treatment afforded to whites. In the 1960's a Rockefeller sailed through the remote islands of New Guinea on his own where he came across indigenous people who were untouched by modern civilization. These people killed him and ate him because he was different (this experience is consistent with accounts by explorers of earlier times in the New World). Or look at the Barbary Slave Trade where North Africans enslaved more than 1 million Europeans off the coast of the Mediterranean and the UK. No cultural/ethnic group has a clean history, so why do you single out whites. In modern day capitalism people mostly care about how much money you can spend in their business. In London the British bend over backwards for Arab tourists because they spend so much money. The Chinese are the most dominant tourist group, and they have open access to any Western country they want, including its real estate markets. These rights aren't afforded to foreigners investing in Chinese real estate.
If you want to talk about privilege look at Senator Charles Rangel who was allowed to avoid jail and stay in office even after being caught with tax evasion. Or how about the mayor of DC who openly smoked crack and stayed in office. Or how about Donte Stallworth, the NFL player who was drunk driving and killed a pedestrian, but was able to avoid jail by reaching a financial settlement with the family.
If you are so adamant about white privilege, why not test it out by punching a police officer in the face and then go for his gun, but be warned I am fairly certain the officer won't believe in your privilege if you are white:

Prehaps you are misunderstanding, or have a separate understanding of the meaning of "white privilege" as was the article's intended meaning.
Of course people aren't referring to the violent deaths of people as a "privilege", and as you say in your WWI example.
It would be just as asinine to say that Sickle Cell Nemia is a "white privilege", because the white race is fortunate enough to not still carry that particular gene.
I think a better example of the intended meaning, that you might be able to understand, would be for you to look back some decades ago, to a time in America when it was not unusual to see a sign on a public restroom door which read,"White's Only".
And not just restrooms, and not just in America, but also throughout much of Europe- their were many benefits and aspects of everyday life that blacks and others simply weren't privileged to take part in.
This is "White Privilege" as its starkest.
To accept the white privilege was to take a seat at the front of the waiting line; to be the first one's served and catered to; to enjoy privileges that simply were not given to those of ethnicity.
Some of you, your dads or your grandfathers may remember those days well.
Now a days, those signs are no longer permitted to be hung around town, but make no mistake- the signs are still there for those who can read them.
The all too familiar scent is still lingering on the nose hairs of the less ignorant.
Now some may say "white privilege is a thing of the past", but the truth is it is just less prevalent today than it was in it's heyday- the 1940's-1960's.
To say that white privilege doesn't exist, well, there may be some truth to it, but the truth is- that's just in their little bubble, where most people happily reside.

It's called a fact. LOL. I know, to you at first glance it causes shock since you deal in tall stories and creative writing. I was giving you an example of how you should back up and defend your BS threads.
But to tie that "fact" in with this thread, that 54% graduation rate "explains" in part why African Americans can't find jobs. It's not because of whitey. See DP, here is the conundrum you have. You support amnesty and open borders to allow every illegal to come in to our schools and lower the market wages thereby crowding out uneducated blacks from getting no skilled jobs. And no skilled jobs is exactly what they need since 46% of them don't even have a HS diploma. And those that do are not even reading and writing at the high school level anyway. So you create this environment of inevitable poverty. And then you join this mad crowd in Ferguson saying the white man has it in for the black man. Well, not really. The black man is mad because he is poor, out of work, has no money and no future. That would piss both of us off.
Now is the white man really discriminating against hiring someone with no skills, no HS diploma and terrible reading and writing skills? He might. LOL. Not because he is black, but because he is not qualified to do anything!

To be completely accurate, the sickle cell is a double edge sword in that it has benefits, such as defense against malaria, as you say, but do not make the mistake of ignoring that it has also caused the painful crippling and shortened life span of countless millions of Africans.
The original point being that is indeed asinine to refer to such a condition as a privilege.
If your intent is to produce asinine equations, why not just come right out and say it: "White Privilege is a figment of DB's imagination, and black people are really the only true racists that exist today."
I find it quite interesting- the typical republican responses to "white privilege" are:
A: "It doesn't exist, or at least not in my neck of the woods."
and/or
B: "Perhaps if I adamantly show many examples of black on white race crimes, then those examples will somehow cancel out 'white privilege'."
Actually, my response is: Your continued assumptions will indeed make us both appear to be ignorant asses.
As predicted, you have given many more examples of black on white race crimes, which somehow actually serve to debase or debunk "white privilege".
The sad truth is, many reading your retorts will, in their reality, say to themselves, "Ya know, Whiskers is right- 'white privilege' doesn't really exists. How else could he explain all of the black on white hate crimes that happen today?"
I would be happy to discuss black on white race crimes, and/or "black privilege"- but perhaps more so in another thread.
The title and thread topic here is "white privilege", so it only seems appropriate to talk about it. This doesn't mean that whites are being singled out or held to standards that others of ethnicity shouldn't be held to.

Here's the deal, Wsk- there is an entire political party, in which a great many of its constituents carry the following sentiments:
"I have no problem whatsoever discussing blacks and their problems. I can and often do go on for hours on end discussing their shortcomings; their manipulative schemes, and I absolutely believe them to be a racist bunch. However, if you wish to create such asinine concepts, as "white privilege", then this is where I draw the line. White privilege simply doesn't exist."

You make a valid point that privilege isn't always confined to skin color- it also applies to nationalism, philisophical beliefs, etc.
"the good ol boy system" can and does accept those of color, so long as they are willing to believe and reteach the values of the conservative movement.

Well, that derserves it's own thread as you and I both know it's a very complicated answer and one that does not deserve a one sentence or one paragraph response. But I provided a fact and back it up with a source and tied that fact into the thread. I'm shooting par down here. You're a few strokes over.

Bad home life, crappy parents are 2 biggies in why their graduation rate is so low. Being born to druggies in many cases has lots of kids on ADHD medicines. That is why I see so many out of control kids in classes.
You haven't tied it into the thread until you give it value. Backing away by saying that the answer is "complicated" is no answer at all.
