Earlier today, Vice President Joe Biden addressed the ongoing discussion and debate surrounding gun control. Rather than relying strictly upon the legislative process, he said that Obama âis going to actâ â and potentially without Congressâ blessing.
Before meeting with gun safety and victimsâ groups, the vice president told reporters that âexecutive ordersâ may be an avenue that the administration will use to take swift action on firearms.
âThere are executives orders, thereâs executive action that can be taken,â he said. âWe havenât decided what that is yet. But weâre compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required.â
As the Weekly Standard notes, Biden stressed the importance, in his view, of taking action to curb gun violence. He also said that he is convinced that the government âcan affect the well-being of millions of Americans and take thousands of people out of harmâs wayâ â pending officials âact responsibly.â
Even if Obama attempts to take unilateral action, Biden indicated that legislation is still ârequired.â
