I just heard on the Kudlow Report on cnbc, that the insurers kind of met him halfway, but also stood their ground.

so the deal they came up with

If you sign up by the deadline date of Dec23, they will cover you starting Jan 1 if they get the first month premium by Jan 13

man, it would be a good time to be a lawyer

President Barack Obama's healthcare law could have a "meltdown" and make it difficult for his Democratic Party to keep control of the U.S. Senate next year if ongoing problems with the program are not resolved, a Democratic senator said on Sunday.

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who has urged delaying a penalty for people who do not enroll for health insurance in 2014 under the law, told CNN that a transitional year was needed for the complex healthcare program, commonly known as Obamacare, to work.

"If it's so much more expensive than what we anticipated and if the coverage is not as good as what we had, you've got a complete meltdown at that time," Manchin told CNN's "State of the Union" program.

"It falls of its own weight, if basically the cost becomes more than we can absorb, absolutely."

I saw that interview, if you were blindfolded and didn't know who he was, you would have thought he was republican. He also mentioned that social security and medicare, in it's present form is unsustainable long term.

The one glaring question concerning obamacare he was never asked was, "Did you vote for it?"
 
This reporting by Forbes is Bizarre to say the least. The Insurers certainly are not offering to cover anyone for "free" as reported. All they have done, apparently after some requests from HHS and the Whitehouse is voluntarily agree to give a grace period for payment, of what? ten days. There is no free insurance. This exposes the companies to a small risk of course that a covered person would become ill in the interim but not pay their premium when due. If the patient doesn't pay the premium, of course the company is out what they paid on any claim acquired during the grace period, or whatever portion they cannot eventually collect. So yes the companies are taking on some tiny risk, and they are losing something less than the ten days of overnight interest on the delayed premium. But use your head! Who in their right mind who becomes seriously ill during the grace period and runs up big medical bills is not going to pay their premium -- absolutely no one !

The insurance companies are not offering free care, nor were they "ordered" to offer it. They volunteered to delay the premium due date. Allow a grace period in other words. This practice of allowing a grace period for premium payment is fairly common in the insurance industry, in all sorts of instances.

The idiocy and gullibility of some people is astounding! But when that kind of headline gets into Forbes it is time to hire better educated staff. Apparently the Forbes Staff are unaware of the McCarran Ferguson Act.

Of course these insurance company concessions will not rescue the hopelessly flawed Obamney care. Nor do I think the Insurance companies have any interest in seeing it rescued.

I forget what they call it on car insurance, but you can buy a car, and call them from the dealer and you are covered when you leave the lot

it's a moot point, since practically nobody is going to be enrolled by midnight 12/23/2013

I enrolled in October. I have an account, a screen name and password and they gave me an id number. They gave me choice if I wanted to be notified by email or USPS. I chose email, and haven't heard a thing from them.
