Whine/ rant of the week...month...

Cripes sake, I'm an editor and tech support for the family, and it is killing my trading.
We have 2 kids still in school and I read their papers for grammar and the such as a final edit. I also read the wife's reviews to do the same as she is not the best with written english. On the one hand I am glad to help, but it seems like this stuff comes up during my trading times and need to be done sooner than later. At least the middle son is giving me credit in his projects for his PhD.
Tech support is another one. Everytime they have an issue I am the first call as I am home and have been using tech long enough to know some helpful stuff. Again, it most often is during the trading day that I get a call, or as today the youngest brought his whole computer over.
I have a hard time saying wait or no to them, but I am getting more aggravated by the day as August and July have been nonstop for all of the above.
Anyway, back to it, as I have now wasted more time by my own doing.
Thanks for the space to lose it for a minute.
Proceed to cry me a river :)

Give the kids and wife a copy of "Grammar for Dummies", and tell them to learn it on their own, because Daddy is busy with bringing home the meat to feed the family.

Tell them to learn how to find the resources on their own, like in the old days.

Did you hear the key phrase in there? "Self-reliance" Chew on that.
 
I agree, and the kids are already good with the English language and usage, I am just the final read through to catch any missed items. Reading your own work I find a tendency to read what you intended as opposed to what actually came out while typing, and while proofreading you still see what you thought and miss what is typed. I read through and find those things as well as occasional grammar issues.
Tech crap they do need to start dealing with and learning for themselves. I can help, but it will be after hours.
Your point is right on, just a habit that is hard to break. I realized after I posted that I was equally pissed with myself for going along and not setting boundaries.
 
It sounds to me like you are partly responsible....
give them an inch, they will take a mile...

Be glad it's August and not Oct/Nov when I think things will get exciting.
Seriously, just lay down some ground rules.
"I'll help you after the market closes"
"Don't bother me during trading hours unless the house is on fire" etc...
 
I take responsibility for being unable to say no. I am an idiot in that respect. I have told them before to hold off bugging me during the day, but I am guessing I haven't been forceful and/or loud enough. On a couple of occasions, I have let loose when one of the kids comes in and sits down and starts asking me questions, but it doesn't sink in for long apparently.
The wife has gotten better and normally texts me to see if it is a good time to call or review material. I'm the one who says yes and ends up diving into whatever comes my way.
