Which Vanguard money fund is safest?

I use Vanguard for money funds but can tell which is safest. I'm in Prime Money Market and want to move to a treasury fund but they all look the same.

Admiral Trsy Money
Federal Money Mkt Fund
Treasury Money Mkt Fund

Which is safer?

treasury is the safest, as it invests only in u.s. treasuries.
prime and federal mmf contain fannie mae (granted, it's very short term debt). admiral may buy agency bonds such as fannie mae, but in the last filing (feb 2008) it only held u.s. treasuries.

fidelity mmf's are safer.

Under your mattress

Convert them to Euro's first

?????

The Vanguard funds are quite safe, and in general have lower expense ratios than Fidelity funds. However, Fidelity's and Vanguard's MM funds are virtually equivalent, fund for fund. The Admiral funds have slightly lower expenses because they require higher minimums.

The real problem is that none of these funds denominated in US dollars is safe, because the money in them will lose buying power over time, and that's because of out of control "defense" spending in Washington. Bush's missiles in Poland! and three trillion dollar war, that you are paying for, are costing you big time in devalued currency. Maybe you should think about a MM fund denominated in Norwegian Krone. I don't believe Norway has any plans to place missiles in Eastern Europe.

Once Bush goes back to Texas permanently we may be better off. Until then, if we live in the US, we've got a problem.

With Vanguard go for the yield and forget about safe as Vanguard is the *last* company that would ever let their money market funds break a buck.

vanguard mmf's are still safe but if you look at their holdings, they are not "equivalent" to fidelity fund for fund, except their treasury funds.

vanguard expence ratio is amazing. for munis its .08% for fidelity its .49& for the same fund.

who cares where these missles are? we all read the same news. russia allowed US to get off the abn treaty. do you really think norway would be ok if poland was bombed? i have a great idea, why does USA not put there missiles in russia? if there to combat Iranian missiles? everyones happy.
