Which Religion Is Most Intolerant To Other Religious Views?

No, the death penalty is a state-sanctioned legal penalty for atheism in multiple Islam countries.

I have no problem with religions that don't seek to put me to death for my beliefs on religion. Maybe you know better than I do, perhaps there are other religions which I should despise because they take a similar line?

There are hundreds of millions of Muslims that don’t care if you are an atheist. Maybe it’s a political tool of oppression rather than a religious one.

Christians in America would have persecuted you as recently as 60 years ago for being an atheist. Even now there are laws that discriminate against atheists in America (with its freedom of religion):

And I am prepared to believe that many Muslims don't want a death penalty for atheism. And I know that years ago the situation with regards religious tolerance was different in many parts of the world.

But within the context of the question posted here, how else am I to answer? And what's the point of looking at the historic situation when we're talking about the here and now.

Its seems perfectly reasonable that in order to identify the least tolerant religion, we look at which religions mandate the death penalty for people of different faiths or no faiths. The only one as far as I can tell is Islam. Yes, its not a universal law in Islam, but it is unique.

I would say that more Muslims have died in the last 10 years for being Muslim than Muslims have killed over their religion.

Perhaps you should answer it from a perspective different from just your own. And perhaps it’s appropriate to look at it over the last thousand years instead of the last 10. Then the obvious answer is Christianity.

If I'd lived in a different century to where we are now I would have voted differently. But to infer from that that my current vote is invalid is just facile.

Yes, it is well known that the followers of other religions than just Islam carry out negative behaviours towards those of different faiths or no faith. But name a religion which is so intolerant that it has caused the laws of the states in which it has a majority to be so perverted as to mandate the death penalty for atheism.

While I respect your perspective and appreciate this discussion: I think your views on this topic are facile. It’s a lot more complex of a situation. In the same vein as you would vote Muslim because in a land far away people with your views are punished, i would vote Christian because no Muslim has ever tried to convert me; several Christians have.

You console yourself in this way if you wish. The situation is not complex at all. Several Islamic states will kill me simply because I am an atheist. Obviously, the way by which I can gain a pardon and escape the death penalty would be by conversion. Now you can say that no Muslim is trying to convert me by coming to my door with pamphlets, but they are still trying to convert me, using the threat of death.

Surely coercion by threat of death shows more intolerance than posting a few leaflets to read on a rainy afternoon, don't you agree?

I know of no other religion which threatens me with death if I simply do not subscribe to a religion. That puts Islam a length ahead of the others in this group.

Or perhaps you know of another religion which has as an official policy of killing atheists?

Many/most killings of muslims done because of their religion have been commited by other muslims.
You're tiring always branding the victim card when it comes to muslims.
Not sure which religion is the most intolerant, but it's obvious the most problematic to western countries is Islam ( a non religious country like China might be a bigger threat, but it doesn't boil down to religious education).
It seems non western or christian countries also pinpoint muslim groups as the main threat when it comes to religious activity btw.

That's a typical argument done by muslims trying to justify the many atrocious things done in present day in the name of their religion:
Christians were more savage a millenium ago, so it s fine we are only a couple of centuries backwards.

It's such a controversial and delicate question. People need to believe in something, and that is ok. But everything should be without fanatism. As for me, I believe in science, and I respect all religions. Sometimes, some people want to convince you to take their point of view, which is terrible.
