Which Caribbean Island to move to

Hows about Freeport City, close enough to Miami to sneak over there for the weekend, and if your a rich successful trader, take your speedboat there, like 90 miles away is all.

I assume you're referring to Freeport, Bahamas?

First, the Bahamas are not Caribbean. And second, Freeport is a hole. A major dump as a permanent residence.

I was on a cruise ship which stopped at Domincan Republic. So I decide to go for a run --- I really didn't know where I was going. 5 Minutes into the run I realize I'm going through a fucking shanty town ghetto. The kinda place where they will kill you for your tee shirt. I kept going and did my run but it didn't feel right.

A while back two canadian girls got raped and killed in DR. Shit like that happens all the time in these countries.

You want sun move to spain or lower europe. Much better in my opinion.

for low crime Puerto Rico is your best bet, I had people refused to take tip for using their fax machine and the internet connection was good.
 
St. Marteen or St. Barts if you insist on the islands. Plenty of casinos shopping etc. It's a better idea to simply rent a loft in South Beach, Miami. You'd have everything from your list, but it's cheaper than either island and you have all the infrastructure (broadband, espn, target) that comes from living in the US. The isolation of island living is going to give you cabin fever eventually.

I live in Florida and can tell you that a south beach loft is not anything close to the lifestyle of St. Maarten (just there 3 weeks ago). Infrastructure way better in the states, but totally different vibe. Laid back vs. hyper dope fiends.:)

Aruba hands down.

I was there for 2 weeks...
And it's virtually impossible to buy drugs or get a hooker...
And I'm an expert at finding both as required.

It's a function of the strong Euro/Hispanic Catholic culture.

But there are dozens of casinos and large hotels and great shopping...
Along with an OK financial infrastructure...
Since it's a Dutch territory.

The George Soros Quantum Funds were based here.
 
Aruba sounds nice. Below is from wikipaedia.

DR (Dominican Republic) is NOT an option for active traders. Beautiful island, but the power goes out sevral times a week, for several minutes each time.:)
