Where's the best place to buy a new computer

Quote from catchawave2:

I have two Dells. One is over 10 years old and I still use it every day.
The other one is a T3400 that I've had for about two years. I've never
had any problems with them.

My one complaint is I think they are very noisy. Loud humming and
constant clicking noises.
Really? I have three T3400's, two of them are powered up 24/7. These are by far the quietest machines I've ever had.

The T3500s I've seen are even QUIETER (especially with X5xx CPU)... besides having X58 chipsets.

Can somebody answer this question about the Dell T3500. I went to the Dell website to price this. The only way you can get more than 4G is if you select 64 bit. If you try to add more than 4G with the 32 bit, you get a pop up error message from Dell.

Why can you not get more than 4G with the 32 bit OS?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier

Can anybody remember the software switch in XP (or I think writing to/altering a text file) that increases the amount of RAM available to apps vs OS - I think default is something like 2GB to OS and 1 for apps - can change to 1 for OS 2 for apps I think, or maybe it just increased the RAM usage up to a max of 3.2.

Limitation of 32-bit.

Does anyone use 4Gb Ram?

I have about 100 charts open on and old P4 system and it's using 1.05Gb.

The i7"s have faster Ram so they must be asleep.
